privacy policy

this privacy policy tells you what the urban dictionary bot (the "bot") and this website urban-dictionary-bot.pages.dev (the "site") do with data. short version: we don't collect much. like basically nothing. read below if you really care.
1. what the bot does
the bot's commands (/urban-lookup, /random, /ping,
/help) look up words from the public urban dictionary api and post the result in the channel you
used them in. if you use the "log in" button on the site, your searches from both the bot and the site are
counted together and you can see them on your profile. it does not read your messages, it does not join voice
channels, it does not read your dms, it doesn't do anything creepy.
2. what discord data the bot handles
- the word you searched — sent to the urban dictionary api so it can return definitions.
- interaction metadata — the payload discord sends with every interaction (server id, channel id, your user id and name). used only so the bot knows where to reply and wrap it with an emoji and maybe your username.
- verification data — if you use linked roles, discord sends your user id and the server id to the verify endpoint so the bot can tell discord you verified.
all of this is processed on the fly to answer your command. we do NOT store your search history, we do NOT sell your data, and we do NOT share it with random people. the only third party that sees your search term is the urban dictionary api (so it can look it up).
3. what the site processes
- search terms — when you use the search bar your word goes to the urban dictionary api through our endpoint. just to get results. not logged or saved.
- logged in searches — if you log in with discord (via the "log in" button), your searches are saved to a profile. this includes the term, when you searched, and whether it came from the site or the discord bot. this lets you see your search history on your profile page. if you dont log in, nothing is saved.
- automatic logs — the site runs on cloudflare pages. cloudflare might keep short technical logs (ip address, user agent, time) for security. standard stuff. not used to spy on you and not linked to your searches.
4. cookies and tracking
we use one cookie when you log in: ud_session. its a random session token stored http only
(no javascript can read it) and it expires after 7 days. we also use a short lived state cookie during the
discord login flow that deletes itself immediately. no ads. no analytics trackers. no fingerprinting.
this site does not load any third party scripts unless you click a link out to discord or urban dictionary.
5. third party services
- discord — the bot runs on discord. discord's own privacy policy applies to your discord usage.
- cloudflare — hosts the site. their privacy policy covers the hosting infrastructure.
- urban dictionary — provides the definition data.
6. how long we keep stuff
logged in search history is kept for 30 days. session tokens expire after 7 days. linked roles data gets pushed to discord (their rules) but is not stored on our end. if you want the bot kicked from your server, your search history cleared, or have questions about data just contact us below and we'll sort it out.
7. kids
discord says you gotta be 13+ anyway. also heads up: urban dictionary has some very adult terms on it. we just show what the community wrote. don't search weird stuff on someone else's computer i guess.
